Library Card Maintenance - Renewals, replacements, and enrollments
“I got an alert through email or text that my card needs to be renewed. Do I need to replace my card?”
Renewing your card is free and does not mean you will be issued a new, physical library card, or a new library card number. All it really means is that we annually verify the contact information we have on file. If you signed up for your card on November 18th, 2024, your card will expire every November 18th, even if you checked something out on the 17th.
“How do I renew my card?”
The best way for us to verify that we have the correct identity information is for you to return to the library with your photo ID and library card. We scan your library card, glance at your ID, verify that the contact information that we have is correct verbally, and renew the card. Presto! You’re all set for another 365 days of reading, watching, listening, crafting, etc.
“What if I am physically unable to present these documents to the library?”
We understand accessibility remains to be an issue for our patrons. If there are circumstances that prevent you from visiting the library, please give us a call at (620)583-6222. Ask to speak with Anneliese, the director.
“I lost my card! How do I replace it?”
You will have to visit us in person and present a valid ID with your current address, same as you would if you were receiving a brand new card. Rather than getting a new account, your old account will be assigned to a new barcode, and all of your information will migrate over. Currently, we do not charge for replacing lost cards. We hope through continued passive patron support, we can continue to provide library card access with as few barriers as possible.
“I already have a card with a library in the system, but I moved here to Eureka and want to switch home libraries. Do I need a new card?”
Technically, if you are the same person, all of your library cards should be linked to the same account. So if you’re moving from Independence, we’ll ask that library to allow us to migrate all your old details to our new barcode. The two accounts will be merged.
