May 12, 2020 UPDATE


 
Thank you for your patience and understanding while the library has been closed during the Covid-19 situation.  We know you are anxious to be able to use the library again and we have been working on plans to provide the safest service possible to you.  WE WILL START OFFERING CURBSIDE SERVICE ON MONDAY, MAY 18, 2020.
 
What does curbside service mean?  The building will not be open to foot traffic but you can call, Facebook message or email the library and let us know what items you want.  You can call during regular library hours or leave a message on the answering machine.  We will check the items out to you and bag them, call you when they are ready to go and you can tell us when you will be by to pick them up.  We will watch for you and bring the bag out to you.  If you are in a vehicle, we will place the bag in the trunk or back cargo area or set it outside your car for you to collect.  If you are on foot, bike, etc. we will place the bag outside the front door.  This will follow social distancing guidelines and provide contactless delivery.
 
When you are ready for more items, just let us know.  The items you are returning must be placed in the outside book drop.  THIS INCLUDES DVDs.  This is a change from our normal policy of no DVDs in the outside book drop.  If a DVD is damaged because you returned it in the book drop YOU WILL NOT BE CHARGED FOR IT.
 
Curbside service is the first phase of returning to “normal” service.  This isn’t how we envisioned reopening, but while we have been closed, we have participated in a number of online meetings with other libraries and library officials, not only from Kansas but from across the United States, to find the best ways to safely offer library services.  We, like many other libraries, will be going through several stages during reopening, adding more services when they are deemed safe.  Libraries have unique challenges to overcome during reopening.   Unlike most retail business, we not only have items going out but also items coming back in.  We have been advised that these items should be quarantined for at least 72 hours before staff handles them.  Also, for many of you, the library is your “home away from home.”  When we do open to foot traffic, only a limited number of people will be able to be in the building at one time and half of our computers will be unavailable in order to meet the 6 foot distancing guidelines.  We know these circumstances aren’t ideal but we are committed to giving you the best and safest service we can in a challenging situation.

The "My Account" Option

Did you know you can manage your library account from home? Now you can review what you have checked out, renew items, and place holds on items any time of the day. All you need is your Eureka Public Library Card and a PIN #. Visit the library to create your personal PIN #. Then, look at the upper right corner of our webpage and click "My Account". You will need to enter your name (Last, First), your complete library card barcode # (found on the back of your library card), and your PIN #. Come by the library today to sign up!
