We made sketchbooks for the year in Art4All!
As a librarian, I consider diaries and journals especially precious. Believe it or not, the diaries of ordinary people have revealed some of the most important missing links of information. While mainstream institutions often fail to record the histories of marginalized groups, diaries have given insight into the stories that history fails to record.
The most notable diary to our cultural memory is likely The Diary of Anne Frank, a perfect example of how the daily reflections of a seemingly ordinary person, thrusted into extraordinary circumstances, can provide a lasting thread which connects present to the past.
Keeping a journal can provide so many benefits. To the individual, it is a meditative act of mindfulness, a way to keep the hands busy, an excuse to slow down and take time to oneself. To the world at large, they inspire feelings of interconnectedness.
This was one of my favorite Art4All classes so far! Thank you to all who joined us.
Our next Art4All will be Saturday, May 16th. Keep an eye out for registration opening!
